Daily pic #72: Shavuot
Shavuot,
celebrated tonight, is also known as the Day of the First
Fruits (Hebrew יום הבכורים, Yom ha-Bikkurim). On that day in
ancient Israel the Jewish farmers would bring the first ripe
fruits to the Temple in Jerusalem. There were Seven Species
for which the Land of Israel is praised: wheat, barley, grapes,
figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates.
The grapes on the picture are wine grapes grown in Dishon, a moshav in northern Israel located along the border with Lebanon.
