The Two Towers

Two cranes near Tel Aviv
Fetishism is a very old obsession. The Neanderthals were praying to stones to bring luck in the next hunt, the ancient Egyptians got totally infatuated with the pyramids... Finally, in 1927, Sigmund Freud have explained that the fetish is a substitute for penis. For many people this was a profound realization, which caused them to put their fetishes away and instead concentrate on revolutions and wars. However, not everyone had the will power to dedicate their life to bigger causes, so fetishism simmered under the surface, until the blogging have emerged in the late 1990s.

There are about 1500 wild Nubian Ibex (Capra Ibex) in Israel, inhabiting Judean desert, Negev, Eilat mountains and the Golan Heights. You can often see them on the mountain slopes, while driving to Eilat on Route 90.

Homeless in Japan

Homeless sleeping on a fire hydrant right outside of Tokyo's Shimbashi Station
The homeless in Japan are very polite, quiet, never ask for money and try to stay out of the way. They are completely ignored by the general population and rarely harassed by the police. There are about 5,000 homeless in Tokyo (vs. at least 100,000 in New York City).

Air China's Boing 747-400 taking off from Tokyo's Narita airport.

I came too early to the airport and had some time to kill. A quick survey revealed that Narita has a nice viewing terrace, overlooking the runway. I wish other airports would follow suit.

A girl from Annecy

A girl from Annecy
Annecy is a small town in south-eastern France, less than an hour drive from Geneva.

I was trying to photograph some swans on the canal, when this little girl came out of nowhere, sat in the arch on the steps leading into the water, looked at the crowd on the other side of the canal for a few seconds and disappeared.

Bright future for England

Bright future for England
About a year ago I visited Windsor Castle - one of the official residences for the British Royal Family and Queen's principal weekend retreat.

As I was leaving the castle I noticed a young woman, dressed in a typical Victorian style. She was looking with an inscrutable emotion at a muslim couple - the man, dressed in a traditional white thawb was taking a picture of the castle with his iPhone; the woman, in a black jilbab, most probably was not allowed to have a phone...

The Old City of Jerusalem

The Old City of Jerusalem
It pretty tough to get a visually engaging picture of the Old City from the Hass Promenade (Tayelet) - the sky is always blue, without any interesting clouds, except for a few days in the winter; the omnipresent sand hangs in the air causing the dreaded haze in the images; the arab houses of Abu Tor in front of the Old City walls resemble a garbage dump...

A night view of the Pont Alexandre III and the Eiffel Tower taken from Pont de la Concorde. The time is almost 1 am, minutes before the lights on the Eiffel Tower go off for the night.
