The Nov 14, 2016 supermoon - closest to Earth since 1948, through a 500mm lens.

Unfortunately the dynamic range of even the best digital cameras today is still not large enough to see both the brightly lit moon and the surrounding environment. So you either have a nice moon with discernible features in almost completely black environment or an interesting landscape with a white blob in place of the moon, like the Mediterranean moon below:

Most photographers simply paste some nice full moon, often significantly enlarged, on top of a real moon, like I did below:
