A view on Московский Кремль (Moscow Kremlin) and Москва Река (Moskva River) from Большой Каменный Мост (Bolshoy Kamennyy Bridge).

The 62m tall Водовзводная башня (Vodovzvodnaya Tower) in the middle of the picture, was built in 1488 by an Italian architect Antonio Gislardi. In Sep 1812, the French forces occupied the Kremlin for about two months. When Napoleon retreated from Moscow, he ordered the whole Kremlin to be blown up. The Vodovzvodnaya Tower was one of the towers destroyed by the explosions. Fortunately, the rain damaged the fuses, and the damage was less severe than intended. By 1819 everything was restored to its former glory.
